Maybe you\u2019re right in the aftermath of intense grief or have begun to feel overwhelmed and worn down by it over time. For you, this doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s just a <a href=\"https:\/\/lwrv.org\/resources\/courses\/a-season-of-lament\/lessons\/walking-in-the-dark-by-steve-mickel\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/lwrv.org\/resources\/courses\/a-season-of-lament\/lessons\/walking-in-the-dark-by-steve-mickel\/\">\u201cseason\u201d of lament<\/a> because you\u2019ve seemingly signed up for a lifetime of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastor Steve Mickel shared with the church this last weekend a powerful message \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6OlWuxIcrDY\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6OlWuxIcrDY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Walking in the Dark<\/a>\u201d about his season of life after the tragic and unexpected death of his 21-year-old son and how it changed everything for him, including his intimacy with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something he shared that stuck with me is this: Overcoming grief can feel like chasing the sun over the horizon, but when you stop running after that daylight, you can turn around and walk through the night and catch the sun on its way back up.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many of us, that\u2019s what lament is like \u2013 walking through the dark to get to the light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if we walk through the night, meet the sun, but we still feel shrouded in the darkness? What if sorrow and sadness seem to cling to us in the light, and we only see the sun as a faint and temporary brightening of dense fog that surrounds us?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>If that\u2019s you today, can I encourage you?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Surround yourself with trusted friends who can listen, encourage when appropriate, and pray with you.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>Reach out to your counselor or mentor \u2013 someone ahead of you in life who can help by bringing wisdom, perspective, and comfort to you.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li>But don\u2019t stop there! Activity and participation in your process, showing up for your body and heart, can be so much more potent form of grief counseling than \u201ctalk therapy.\u201d Get up, get out, and get moving! Fresh air, exercise, camaraderie all stimulate our hearts and minds and increase our ability to embrace our full story.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>Finally, in the classic \u201clast but not least\u201d category, after battling the lows for weeks, you may be wondering, \u201cshould I talk to my doctor or licensed counselor about the possibility I\u2019m dealing with depression?\u201d Yes!\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Medical help and medicine may not be an end destination to your journey. Still, they can be vital to bring you back above water if you feel like you\u2019re drowning, allowing you to continue to do the hard work of grieving and engaging your process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving through a season of lament and grief isn\u2019t predictable, and you\u2019re not in a race to \u201cget over\u201d the areas of your heart and life that are hurting.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have time and space, as much as it takes as you move forward, leaning into all the different people in your community who desire to surround you! You are not alone, and every means of restoration should be considered, including medical and professional help! All healing is God\u2019s healing, and God will use every resource available to care for you. Don\u2019t dismiss something God may want to use to bring hope and balance as you get your legs back under you!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI shall look at the world through tears.
