Community Book Reading: The Familiar Stranger

As we move toward Pentecost Sunday on June 8, we’re inviting our community to read with us The Familiar Stranger by Tyler Staton. This book is an invitation to close the gap between what we’ve heard about the Holy Spirit and the reality of walking with Him. Many of us want a spirituality that feels alive but without an intimate relationship with the Spirit, we often end up trying to follow Jesus in our own strength.

As we press into becoming a resilient community of resilient disciples, learning to walk with the Holy Spirit is not optional, it’s essential. The Holy Spirit is the one who forms Christ in us, who empowers our ordinary lives with divine presence, the revealer of truth, and the one who enables us to endure, heal, and live with radical faith.

So let this book guide us deeper, as a community, into the kind of relationship we were always meant to have with the Holy Spirit.

This book is included for free as an audiobook if you have a Spotify premium. You can also purchase it on amazon.

Within our stories lies the power we need to overcome. Some of us struggle to recognize the overcoming power in our own story, as so many of them still hold loose ends, moments of intense loss, or perhaps unanswered questions. Paul so beautifully reminds us that it is “in our weakness” that Jesus is seen and made strong- and so therefore we can boast in our weakness! It is often our own stories of brokenness and pain that Jesus rides in with overcoming power.
