The Joy That Endures

Ryan Rhoden December 18, 2024

This season, as we reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, let us remember the truth that “for the joy set before him, he endured the cross.” Jesus exemplified a deep, abiding joy that transcended circumstances. He faced unimaginable trials, yet His focus remained on the joy of fulfilling His Father’s will and the redemption of our lives. As we navigate our own struggles, we can draw strength from His example.

It’s not about ignoring our pain but embracing the joy that comes from knowing we are part of a greater story. As we celebrate this Advent season, let us fix our eyes on the joy that Jesus brings.

May we be filled with His joy, allowing it to overflow into our lives and the lives of those around us.

Here are five key takeaways on how we can renew our joy:

  1. Embrace the Greater Story: As we navigate through life, it’s essential to remember that we are part of a much larger narrative—the story of Jesus and His love for us. This greater story invites us to step beyond our immediate circumstances and recognize the joy that comes from being part of God’s unfolding plan.
  2. Joy is Proportional to Focus: The amount of joy we experience is directly linked to where we set our eyes. When we focus on Jesus and the truth of His promises, our joy deepens. It’s not about ignoring our circumstances but about choosing to look beyond them to the hope and grace that Jesus offers.
  3. Joy is Deeper Than a Feeling: True joy is not merely a fleeting emotion or superficial happiness. It is a deep, resounding state of being that comes from knowing and experiencing God’s grace and redemption through Jesus. This joy is rooted in our faith and cannot be swayed by external circumstances.
  4. Remembering His Benefits: It’s essential to not forget the benefits that God has provided. Reflecting on His goodness, compassion, and the blessings in our lives can renew our joy and strengthen our faith, reminding us of His unwavering presence.
  5. The Joy That Endures: Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him, which included the redemption of humanity. This perspective encourages us to look beyond our current struggles and to find joy in the hope and promises that God has for our future.
