When you first open your Bible, the first person we meet is God. Here we read that God was the one who created everything we see today. He spoke and creation came to be. He defines what is good and what is not good. In other words, He alone is King and has the authority to influence every aspect of the universe. But then as the pinnacle of God’s creative work He makes humans and calls all of them image of God. He creates them in His image and likeness and gives them permission to rule and reign on the earth as His representative.

If humans were supposed to rule and reign as God’s delegated authority, how are we supposed to rule?

The picture we get is gardening. We are to rule by cultivating it and making something new and something more out of it. This looks like growing families, that becomes a neighborhood, and then a community where they are taking care of each other, building businesses and cities that expand to new places. Ruling is really the day to day acts of work and creativity.

This is humanity’s divine and sacred task: to move the world forward and take it somewhere as a family of God.

God gives humans a choice of how they are going to rule. Are they going to use the authority for the benefit of others or are they going to turn away and define good and evil for themselves and use their authority for self-advantage?

In the story, they chose to define good and evil on their own terms. Even though we do see good in the world we always end up making a mess of things. But this is not where the story ends.

This is where we meet Jesus. All the problems are eventually resolved when God bound Himself to humanity through Jesus showing us what it truly looks like to rule as a human.

So in following Him and becoming His disciple, we are slowly transformed returning back to our divine purpose.

Who is Jesus Christ?

  • The way back to the family of God and the one who restores us back to a relationship with the Father

  • He came for the sick, he came to seek those who are lost (Luke 4:17-21)

  • Jesus set us free from sin and death “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” Romans 8:2

  • He rose from the dead and defeated death once and for all. “Christ died for our sins…He was buried, He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures…He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred…” 1 Corinthians 15:3-6

  • He Is the Only Way to God”Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'” John 14:6

  • John 10:10 –  the enemy came to steal kill and destroy, but he came that we might have life and life abundantly

  • Matthew 11:28-30  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

  • When Jesus stepped into the earth and invited people to repent, He was bringing a whole new Kingdom. Not like the kingdoms of this world where fear, hatred, greed, worry, judgment, are the main ways people operate. It was an invitation to an inside-out, upside-down Kingdom. Matthew 4:17

  • Jesus didn’t just die in our place, we also died with Him. In doing so, we die to ourselves and we receive His Spirit inside us empowering us to live as He did. Romans 6, Gal 2:20

What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?

It’s the family of God where a community of people experience and grow in the love of Christ increasing the Presence of the loving Father on the Earth. – John 20

It’s a self-giving, sacrificial way of life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” 1 John 3:16-17

How do I Follow Jesus?

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9

  • When We Receive Christ, We Experience a New Birth (Read John 3:1-8)

  • We Receive Christ by Personal Invitation – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him.” Revelation 3:20

  • Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self (repentance) and trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and to make us what He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for your sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience. You receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.

Prayer is talking to God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:

Jesus, I believe in you. By faith, I give you my whole being, and invite you to come and live in me. I turn from everything in my life that self-focused, self seeking, and self medicating. I turn from pain I am holding, and any pain I am creating around me. I don’t want to hurt and I don’t want to hurt others anymore. I am tired of doing life on my own, and living my own way. Please forgive me.

I want a new start in You. I want a clean start in You. Everything associated with darkness, you are not welcome in my thoughts, my emotions or my actions anymore – go now, you no longer have a voice or authority over my inner-reality – Jesus is the only authority now, the only voice who will speak identity over me from this day forward. Spirit of God, though you are invisible, you are tangible, and I welcome your filling presence into my life right now. May your light flood to every corner of me being right now! I receive your forgiveness and your empowerment. I declare that I am reborn in you Jesus, made entirely new, and from now on, I am carrying your overflowing presence with me wherever I go. I receive you fully. I receive every gift you have for me right now. And, I receive my place as a son/daughter at your table, I receive my assignment to follow You with all of my life, and I receive your invitation to spend the rest of my life receiving, experiencing, and pressing deeper into your unconditional love for me.

What Does It mean To Be a
    Disciple of Jesus?

    • We live inside a different kind of Kingdom. (John 18:36)

    • When the enemy came to steal kill and destroy, Jesus came that we may have life and have to the full. (John 10:10)

    • It’s not based on religious obligations but about a ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:11-21)

    • It’s no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in us. (Galatians 2:20)

    • We are continually being transformed to look like Jesus. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

    What do YOU look like
    fully alive in Christ?

    • YOU – The answer to this question will be unique for each and everyone of us. Even as we are all created from the same Image (image of God), how we manifest that image will be different much like a fingerprint.

    • FULLY ALIVE – You have a story, and that story matters. All of us have a purpose, a meaning, a journey we are meant to embark and when you step into that reality you become fully yourself. There is no hiding, only rising.

    • IN CHRIST – There is an enemy, forces that are keeping us away from our purpose and destiny and undermining our journey to become fully alive. There are lies that have become our identity. Fear and shame has become our cloak where we have become unrecognizable even to ourselves. That’s why CHRIST came; to save us from the sting of death which is sin (1 Corinthians 15:56). CHRIST defeated death and reversed the effects of sin. IN CHRIST, we get His victory. We get His power. We get His Spirit. So that we can again become fully manifested and revealed sons and daughters displaying the reality and Glory of God through our life.

      1. that everything has been won on the cross

      2. that we have access to every spiritual blessing

      3. that we are well equipped to destroy the works of the enemy

      4. that we have died, buried, raised and glorified with Christ

      5. that the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of us

      6. that we can live as God intended to be, empowered to bring transformation uniquely manifesting the purposes of God here on the earth as His royal ambassadors.

Here at Living Waters, we are cultivating a family of fully alive believers that are experiencing deep intimacy with the Holy Spirit, secure in our heir identity in Christ, and partnered with Jesus in our inheritance with the Father to express the fullness of HIS Kingdom in every area of our lives.
