Confronting Opposition in the Financial Realm

Thanks again for jumping in to partner with Kate and me as we pray for the overall finances of Living Waters. We continue to believe that God is doing something important to our church’s overall health and life in and through this long season as we wait for financial winds to shift.

Each Thursday, and possibly more often throughout the week, Kate or I will write up a short prayer directive so you can join us in prayer for that week.

Please know we do not want this to be a one-sided conversation. We want to hear from you as you pray for Living Waters. When I say “Living Waters,” I don’t just mean the organization. When I say Living Waters, what comes to mind is this amazing community of connected believers who are being refined as followers of the Way of Jesus. I see you, your families, then the community as a whole, and finally, I think of the organization or “church,” the building, budget, and numbers. But that formal definition of Living Waters isn’t necessarily what we are praying for as if the goal is just to pray until we have larger offerings and to move on from our budget shortfall. The goal of our prayer is that God would teach us how we walk out this season of finances. It is to see Christ formed in all of those who call Living Waters home, in our own finances, generosity, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit to guide and form our finances in a more Jesus-like way.

Beyond that, as I mentioned Sunday, we are seeing and perceiving that we are confronting opposition in the realm of our finances. There are strongholds to be pulled down in prayer that are hindering our ability to stretch forward into this next season as a church community.

So, join us in praying on two fronts:

  1. That God would use this season to form us into generous people who move with Him, whether we have plenty or little—lordship, surrender, and maturity in our individual, household, and church finances.
  2. To overcome any plan the enemy has established against our church, and for God to reveal and displace any spiritual strongholds impacting our finances, our healthy growth, and/or the generosity of our body as a whole.

Thank you again for jumping onto the “Financial Prayer Team.” We feel a growing hope because we now know that we are working with a mobilized group of “prayer warriors” willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with us and fight for His Kingdom to come and will to be done, here and now.

Within our stories lies the power we need to overcome. Some of us struggle to recognize the overcoming power in our own story, as so many of them still hold loose ends, moments of intense loss, or perhaps unanswered questions. Paul so beautifully reminds us that it is “in our weakness” that Jesus is seen and made strong- and so therefore we can boast in our weakness! It is often our own stories of brokenness and pain that Jesus rides in with overcoming power.
