As I reflect on our journey as a church and the foundational teachings we have embraced, I am reminded of the importance of understanding our identity in Christ. Join me as we explore the significance of discovering our true identity in Christ and how it impacts our lives.
Intimacy, Identity, and Inheritance
When my wife and I took over this church, we were commissioned to focus on three pillars: intimacy, identity, and inheritance. These pillars have been the foundation of our teachings for almost ten years. We believe that no matter what, we should never stray from these core principles. Our goal is to help people fully come alive in Jesus by guiding them through the journey of intimacy, identity, and inheritance.
Embracing Our Adoption as Children of God
As followers of Jesus, we have been adopted into God’s family. Our identity is rooted in our sonship and daughtership through our relationship with Jesus.
And it says this, yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Yet to all who did receive him, this is speaking of Jesus Christ.
John 1:12
The question we must ask ourselves is where do we find our identity? Do we find it as beloved sons and daughters of God, or do we find it in our behavior? Answering this question is crucial in recognizing if we are truly living in our identity in Christ or if we are living out of a false self that seeks validation and acceptance from others.
Recognizing Our False Self
Our false self, also known as the imposter, is the part of us that tries to project an image that we believe others want us to be. It is the mask we wear to hide our true selves and gain love and acceptance. Many of us have become experts at adapting to different environments and personas, but this only leads to fragmentation and a lack of wholeness.

- At home self
- Internet self
- Party self
- Church self
- Bedroom self
Embracing Our False Self
Instead of denying or destroying our false self, we are called to embrace it with compassion and understanding. Our false self is a part of us that has learned to survive and seek love in a world where love can be a moving target. By embracing our false self, we can bring our whole selves before God and experience His grace and mercy. We come to grips with our selfishness. We make friends with the imposter and accept that we are impoverished and broken.
Walking in our true identity requires us to release our false self and fully embrace who we are in Christ. It is a journey of integration and wholeness, where we no longer hide or perform to earn love. Instead, we come before God as we are, knowing that His love is constant and unchanging. Let us walk boldly in our true identity as beloved sons and daughters of God, knowing that we are fully accepted and loved.
