What did we learn from Acts 6 from the early believers and the leaders?
HE HAS ENOUGH FOR US – IF WE WILL LIVE IN GENEROSITY. (Acts 6:1-2)
When we live is suspicion of others who aren’t the same as us, we can end up withholding. We fear there isn’t enough to go around, and this creates tension and division within community. But, in reality, this is a lack mindset that asks “what if there isn’t enough?” instead of “what can I do with what I have?”Generosity breaks fear, it breaks division, and it expresses love! It invites people in, makes them feel seen and valued, and allows us to put action to our faith!
HE HAS SOLUTIONS FOR US – IF WE WILL LIVE IN CREATIVITY. (Acts 6:5-6)
With God, every problem is an opportunity. When we disconnect from God’s heart or perspective, problems overwhelm, upset and detour us. Instead of seeking supernatural wisdom for Kingdom solutions, we grumble, complain, fight it, or even give up. We can feel like life is always putting obstacles in front of us, and no matter what there’s “always something” that’s going to be tripping us up.But with God, “It’s always something” can become “He’s always up to something”! The early church experienced this as the solution God gave them brought everyone back together after tension and some fragmenting had taken place between groups!
HE HAS ASSIGNMENTS FOR US – IF WE WILL LIVE IN PEACE, ON PURPOSE. (Acts 6:4; 7)
The disciples were leading the early church and had become overwhelmed as the immediate demands of a growing and thriving community was trumping their ability to focus on what was deeply important – the instructions Jesus had left them with. (Acts 1:8)The disciples were trying to do everything, and as a result the community lost peace and they lost focus on their primary purpose. When we try to do it all for God we often do nothing with God.But our invitation is to rest in Him, and like the early leaders, remove things from our plate so that we can remain focused on the main things He has asked us to do and grow into who He has shown us we are!As we remain committed to the simple things (know Him, hear Him, and follow Him), our peace increases and our purpose clarifies
