Binding Our Hearts To Wisdom

Dear Prayer Team,

I went back and read through our prayer items last week, and remembered why it is so important to keep prayer journals! I am copying them here, and rejoicing with all of you over the responses to several of these specific conversations we’ve had with God for our church.

  • Final permits for beginning the renovation in the other half of our building.
    • THIS IS DONE!! Permits are finished and we have a green light for the next step!
  • Donations specified for the building project from our donors.
  • Increase for Central Food Truck (tables ready, outhouses ready, more trucks, favor in the community, participation for the building of relationships)
    • YES! Did anyone else see the new food truck out in our space this week??
    • Katz Crepes, WELCOME!
  • Further connection with our church family and beyond through Abide, Community Life Sundays, LW University and extension ministries (women’s gatherings, men’s get together, youth, young adults)

The thing I love about our list is the balance of items. There are some things we can say for sure have happened, and some are ongoing relational prayers that become regular additions to the changing practical needs before us.

I would like to add to this list, partnerships for the building project. People feel the most connected to something with which they have contributed. This is true of our own church family participation, and also the city and contracting companies and businesses who join with us in this project. The renovation is about bringing the community together and every entity that joins hands with us also increases their connection to us. The kingdom grows as we all work together. Let’s pray for Spirit movement among the contributors to this plan as we collaborate and make progress with one another.

I’ve been sitting in my kids’ room as they fall asleep this week, helping them get back on a school schedule. I bring a little light and just read scripture over them as they start to relax and unwind. Last night I stopped at Proverbs 10:8 and read it multiple times to myself.

“The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.”

The Leadership Council meets tonight. We are asking for God’s commandments; his words, his leading, his direction, as we move forward with building plans. Please pray for us to have wise hearts…which is just another way of saying our hearts would be bound to Wisdom. Any conversation or plan we make apart from that cannot succeed (thankfully!).

I also pray a blessing over each one of you. May these gloriously sunny days, crisp cool evenings, and fresh fall air, delight your senses with the presence of Jesus and inspire you to increased intimacy as we all savor his gifts and respond with worship.

We are so thankful for each of you! We feel you with us and are encouraged by your prayers.

Thank you!

Sommer

Holding The Door Open – A Father’s Day Message

Within our stories lies the power we need to overcome. Some of us struggle to recognize the overcoming power in our own story, as so many of them still hold loose ends, moments of intense loss, or perhaps unanswered questions. Paul so beautifully reminds us that it is “in our weakness” that Jesus is seen and made strong- and so therefore we can boast in our weakness! It is often our own stories of brokenness and pain that Jesus rides in with overcoming power.

New Year. New Ground.

You could see that upfront people were getting slammed into the gates and security was doing their best to stop the situation.  At that point a couple of ambulances showed up and started taking people to the hospital – I think I heard that 6 people ended up with internal bleeding and some with broken arms.  It was nuts!
