Praying for God’s Purposes In and Around our Community

Prayer update: Keep praying! For the first time in a long time, we have had back to back months where giving has started to trend back up. There is a slow victory being won through prayer and the faithfulness of God in this arena. I know it is easy to lose our momentum in prayer, but I want you to know that there has already been an impact through the prayers of this community of intercessors!

Last night we came together with our Leadership Council and as we looked over the numbers for May and June, and then dreamed into where God is taking us in July and August, there is a palpable sense that something is truly shifting as we look to the second half of 2023.

This week’s prayer points:

  • Continued shift in the finances of Living Waters, and the stewardship of our resources for Kingdom purposes.
  • For the Leadership Council: Drew Berryessa, Dennis Browning, Justeen Brown, Alyssa Kerlinger, DeAnna Sickler, Tom Boyles, Jerryck Murrey, Tanner Farrington, Tess Faust, and Sommer Bury as they navigate a very challenging financial season, as well as the expansion into more of the building (360 Building Renovations).
  • For John Eaton, who is taking on a role to help us continue to communicate around the area of finances and the sharing of testimonies at Living Waters! (We want to be better at celebrating and sharing what God IS doing in our church, in all seasons, and John is going to help facilitate that in the months ahead).
  • For our Youth Camp next week: (finances, travel, volunteers and life changing experiences for our Middle and High Schoolers)
  • Family Camp at the end of July! We are expectant for this to be a 90 feet in 60 days growth time for our body (meaning, a time of supernaturally accelerated relational growth for our body).
  • Our Current series: Parables of Jesus, as we learn “the Way” of Jesus by exploring and sharing the teachings of Jesus.

Thank you all for continuing to pray and partner with Kate and I! I know I’m expanding the prayer invitation to topics outside the scope of “Financial Prayer”, but I can’t resist the “temptation” to utilize this powerful group of people to unlock God’s purposes in and around our community!

Final note: Sommer Bury, from our LW Leadership Council, will be coming alongside Kate and I leading and encouraging this team by writing these weekly prayer points and encouraging us all to keep praying! Thank you Sommer for taking the time to hear the Lord and keep everyone on this team in the loop and praying! We are sowing in the Spirit together!!

Within our stories lies the power we need to overcome. Some of us struggle to recognize the overcoming power in our own story, as so many of them still hold loose ends, moments of intense loss, or perhaps unanswered questions. Paul so beautifully reminds us that it is “in our weakness” that Jesus is seen and made strong- and so therefore we can boast in our weakness! It is often our own stories of brokenness and pain that Jesus rides in with overcoming power.

Why You Won’t Hear Us Use The Word “Tithe”

Tithing is Biblical in the Old Covenant. It was the basis of a Monotheistic society and existed in place of a taxation system. What is not Biblical is to take the Old Covenant culture, context, and Law and teach it in a New Covenant reality, placing believers under pressure, expectation, or obligation to give at least 10% of their income to the church to “be Godly,” “pleasing to God,” or to “righteous.
