This week, Aaron and Megan Hovivian courageously shared a deeply personal part of their family’s story. Their daughter, Joy, struggled with severe clinical depression as a teenager, eventually leading to a suicide attempt and the heartbreaking decision to place her in a residential treatment program.

In that painful and uncertain season, Jesus met their family with a simple assurance: “I see. I know. I care.” They experienced His care through a compassionate therapist, unexpected financial provision, and friends who helped carry a burden they could not carry alone.

But the central truth Aaron and Megan wanted to give away was this: Don’t isolate yourself.

Shame convinces us to hide our struggles and present a version of our lives that looks put together. Yet pretending helps no one. Every person and every family carries something difficult, regardless of how things may appear from the outside.

When we bring our pain into the light and invite trusted people into our story, shame begins to lose its power. We make room for comfort, healing, prayer, and the strength of community.

Whatever you may be carrying today, you do not have to carry it alone. God sees you, knows you, and cares for you—and He often reveals that care through the people willing to walk beside you.
