Sommer Bury – Meeting God in the Midst of Pain
This week, Sommer Bury shared an honest story that is still unfolding. After her father died the day after Christmas, she returned home carrying deep grief while still trying to show up for her family and daily life.
Jesus met Sommer through people who were willing to step into that grief with her. Friends invited her to play racquetball, arranged for her house to be cleaned, and brought food—even when her instinct was to say she was fine and did not need help. Looking back, she described it as her community helping turn a grave into a garden: bringing life into the middle of painful loss.
God also met her through a timely conversation with her brother and through a healthcare practitioner who understood that her body needed care and support. In those moments, Sommer began to experience God’s fatherly love in a deeply personal way. She discovered that strength does not mean carrying everything alone, and that asking God to make His love real to us is not weakness—it is an invitation into greater intimacy.
The heart of what Sommer wanted to give away was simple: when the Holy Spirit prompts you to care for someone, take the risk and respond. An ordinary invitation, a meal, a conversation, or a courageous word may become the way another person experiences Jesus.
And if you are struggling to feel God’s love, you can tell Him. He knows the language of your heart, and He delights to meet you there.
